Fishing in Yellowstone is part of a long tradition that today helps to complement fishery output. Fishing season begins the Saturday of Memorial Weekend and extends through the first Sunday in November. Certain regulations upheld by the State of Wyoming and Yellowstone Park are in place to protect more sensitive habitats in the park. These are listed in the Fishing Regulations handbook available on the NPS Yellowstone website.
There are also catch restrictions on Rainbow and Brown Trout, which are updated yearly and should be inquired about at ranger stations. A Yellowstone National Park Fishing Permit is required to fish in the park for all peoples 16 and older.
Permits are available for 3-day($15), seven-day ($20) and season ($35). Permits are available at ranger stations, visitor centers and Yellowstone Park general stores.
